The first time I saw a dory did it for me. I knew immediately that I would row one, my own, some day. So here we go! Going to build my own Briggs Dory with Andy H's plans from High Desert Dories, http://hddories.net. Def a bit intimidating seeing as my wood working background is, to say nicely, lacking. Aside from some fixes around the house, rafting equipment, and garden boxes...well you get the picture. Luckily i have some awesome friends with knowledge and stoke to help out.
The boat will be named Xingu (or Rio Xingu). In keeping with tradition started by Martin Litton, I am naming her after a river in The Amazon, The Xingu River, that is being harmfully impacted by man. The Belo Monte Dam is being constructed on the Xingu, and is slated to finish soon.
Hoping to have all my supplies to start working on the Hull in the next 10 days or so! Wish me luck!
Hey, Mike, this is a fantastic idea. I like not only the patience and boldness it takes to undertake a project like this, but the idea of conservation and the intimacy with water and wood that goes along with it. All the best for getting through the work. Enjoy it. I'll be a safety boater for you any time. (Marc Goulet)
